The members of the Illinois Food Bank Association (IFBA) work in partnership with America’s Second Harvest and other food banks around the country to advocate for Congressional support of essential nutrition programs and other important priorities.

State Priorities

The Illinois Food Bank Association collaborates with many community partners and organizations throughout Illinois to ensure that policies and funding priorities are in place that will help to feed hungry people in Illinois. The IFBA also recognizes that hunger is a symptom of poverty and we support legislation and policies that work to end the cycle of poverty. Below are key state priorities that the IFBA in 2008.

Food for Families Program

The Food for Families Program provides nutritious food to hungry families and individuals throughout the state of Illinois. The food provided through this program is more important than ever with food donations and federal commodities received by food banks declining. Click here to learn more!

From Poverty to Opportunity Campaign

Legislation for the creation of the Commission on Poverty Eradication (HB 4639) has been introduced and is a critical step in the campaign to develop and advocate for a poverty eradication strategy. This Commission will be charged with creating a comprehensive plan for the state of Illinois to cut extreme poverty in half by 2015. Click here to learn more and take action.
